Well, I finally managed to read more than two or three books this month. Along the way, I finished my Classics Club Spin book in record time, and also managed to read two 2019 releases that are sure to be some of my favorites of the year.
You’ll hear more about one of these, Shadowplay, as soon as I can get a review posted. Of the other, Maybe You Should Talk To Someone, I don’t have much to add beyond the other glowing reviews you may have read — just that I also found it an honest and moving account of a therapist’s life “from both sides of the couch,” as it were. Yes, since the author had to fictionalize her patients’ stories to protect confidentiality, it could perhaps better have been written as fiction … but though this layer of artificiality was sometimes a bit distracting, it didn’t keep me from greatly enjoying the book.

October was a great month of reading for me with the modern, suspense classic, The Moonspinners by Mary Stewart; the dark, historical fiction Her Kind by Niamh Boyce and a comforting re-read of the wonderful Persuasion by Jane Austen. Happy reading in November, Lory! 🙂

I need to get to Where the Crawdads Sing soon! I keep hearing awesome things. I’ve been reading a LOT of horror lately. Mostly YA Horror, which I didn’t think was my thing… Turns out it is if Nick Clausen is writing! 🙂

So many people are doing the Classics Club, it pops up wherever I go! My Brilliant Career is a real favourite of mine and one of the first Virago books I bought and read, so I’ll look forward to your review of that one.

Well done on the more books front. I’ve recently made a similar breakthrough and it’s such a relief. The therapist memoir sounds like one of those times it’s absolutely okay to fictionalise. Glad to hear it was good. I’ve not heard of it before so I’ll have to look it up.
I’ve read Julia Armfield’s short story collection Salt Slow that I was fairly excited about but more so once I’d read it if that makes sense.
