I haven’t been keeping up with Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but when I saw some lists on other blogs I could not resist this topic!
Here are some of my outstanding reads so far this year:
- The Winged Girl of Knossos
- The Book of Joy
- May Cause Love
- Bronze and Sunflower
- My Cousin Rachel
- Dark Money
- Scaramouche
- The Unwinding
- Troy Chimneys
- The Bear and the Nightingale
What’s on your list?
I read My Cousin Rachel this year too, and absolutely loved it! I haven’t yet read a Daphne du Maurier book I didn’t love though, so I’m hoping to read more soon.
I’m glad you enjoyed these so much 🙂

I’m pleased to see My Cousin Rachel, Scaramouche and Troy Chimneys on your list – I loved all three of those! I enjoyed The Bear and the Nightingale earlier this year too, although it didn’t make it into my top ten.

I’m definitely in a historical vein so far this year. Having received so many great recommendations for contemporary fiction, I hope I’ll discover some of those to love in Part II.

I really need to read My Cousin Rachel. I enjoyed du Maurier’s Rebecca. {Also, hello!}

Hello Jillian! I’ve been on a du Maurier kick in the last few months. Her biography also sounds fascinating.

This is such a great eclectic list! Sadly, the only one I’ve read is My Cousin Rachel and that was years ago. Maybe it’s time for a revisit.

I think it would definitely bear rereading. Du Maurier is such a clever writer.

My Cousin Rachel is deliciously creepy and off-kilter isn’t it? I’m looking forward to the movie.

I’m curious how they deal with the “unreliable narrator” there.

A very impressive list. I want to read several of these books myself.
In particular, I hope to get to Dark Money soon.

Brian, I think you will be totally fascinated (and infuriated) by Dark Money. It will really contribute to your considerations of the political scene today.

I’m not sure why The Bear and the Nightingale isn’t on my list! So many good choices this year. I’m definitely interested in My Cousin Rachel, the movie preview looked great.

That’s good to know — hope they manage to do the book justice.

I did too, and that’s partly what inspired me to do my own list. 🙂

Dark Money is on my TBR list, but I think I keep avoiding it because it’s such a depressing topic. I do want to read My Cousin Rachel before I see the film adaptation…I hope I can find the time!

Ugh, I’m with you about the depressing topic. Still, it’s definitely one of the most important books I’ve read in the past decade.

My Cousin Rachel made it onto my list this year too. I’m so glad there’s been a resurgence in the book due to the film. I haven’t seen it yet, but Rachel Weisz is perfectly cast.
I’ve been meaning to read Scaramouche for ages, but it keeps falling further and further down my TBR, unfortunately.

It’s a fun one, whenever you get to it.

Interesting to see Troy Chimneys on your list. I picked this up on a whim in a charity shop not having any idea about the author. Good to know my purchase was worth it.

I also picked it up for $1 in a bargain book store — it took me a couple of years to get around to it, but I’m glad I did.

As you know, I also had the wonderful My Cousin Rachel on my list 🙂 I would really like to read Scaramouche and The Bear and the Nightingale.

I need to read more — I have only seen the movie versions (e.g. Captain Blood).

Great list. I love seeing the diversity of everyone’s TTT for this topic. The Bear and the Nightingale might have been on my list as well. Some titles I might put on my list include Radio Silence and When the Moon Was Ours (I’m a little surprised that YA titles were what first came to my mind!).

Not having kept a running list of favorites, it was interesting to see what rose to the top. I wonder what the second half of 2017 will bring?
