Month in Review: December 2016

It’s Christmas Day, and it’s also time to review my reading from the last month of 2016. It was a busy one!

However and whatever you celebrate, I hope your holidays have been joyful, and I hope you can enjoy some wintry reading time. After an extremely hectic and stressful fall, there’s nothing I’d like more than to curl up today with a good book.

  • The Betsy-Tacy Treasury by Maud Hart Lovelace – Reread
  • Jackaby by William Ritter
  • Britannia Mews by Margery Sharp – for Margery Sharp Day
  • Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett
  • French Rhapsody by Antoine Laurain – Review to come
  • Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett

  1. I am working on my yearly wrap up too. That and planning challenges, which I don’t normally do, but have decided on just a few this year. I have to check out what your thoughts are on Hidden Figures. My daughter-in-law and I have tossed around the idea of doing a buddy read and then seeing the movie.

  2. I’m always thrilled to discover stories of unsung historical figures, especially women. Young people especially need stories like this – stories of pioneering women. I’m so glad their stories are finally coming to light. Goodness knows we need more stories of everyday strength, resilience and courage. Can’t wait for the movie!!

    • You’re right, it’s incredibly important to bring these stories to light. Who knows how many more are out there to be discovered?

  3. Merry Christmas! I am toodling along trying to wrap up all my 2016 things and get some January posts and reviews done. I am looking forward to Hidden Figures.

  4. I’m excited for the Mt. TBR challenge as well. I’m going to try to get through a bunch of those books I added to my classroom library last summer, so I can make better recommendations to students. Guards! Guards! is amongst my favorite Discworld novels, and I can’t wait to see Hidden Figures.

    • I want to read through the rest of the Watch sequence now. Do you know about the Discworldathon hosted by Armchair by the Sea?

I want to read Hidden Figures and see the movie (I haven’t heard of it before now) and I really enjoy movies and books like this.

  6. Good luck with your challenges! I’m so curious about both Hidden Figures and The Makioka Sisters; I’ll have to check out what you thought of them. I hope winter is much less stressful for you than fall!

  7. Rebecca

Glad you enjoyed Hidden Figures! I cannot wait to see the movie and hear their story. I’m familiar with two of the actors and look forward to all of their performances. Good luck with your challenges for the year ahead!

  8. No down time for you, even in December with the holidays! You still had a pretty busy month all things considering. Good for you for reading so many non-review books; I need to start doing that more.
