Put the Library on Hold: Mid-month check-in

Posted January 15, 2015 by Lory in challenges / 12 Comments

It’s the middle of January, and as promised here is a status update on my Put the Library on Hold challenge. So far I’ve read five of the books lurking on my shelves, a nice mix of fiction, non-fiction, new-to-me books and rereads (see the original post for which ones). They have all been wonderful, so I’m really glad I made this effort.

How has your reading gone this month? If you’re participating in any challenges, what progress have you made?

Even though it has been extremely hard not to get a whole bunch of books form the library to read this month… so far I have been good! I too have read five of my own books and I'm glad I have. I'm on number six now and hope to get five more in by the end of the month. I'm so glad you did this challenge!

  2. My no-library reading has been going very well! Although I admit to having been strongly tempted when I drove past the library yesterday…. 🙂

  3. Great job, reading five books from your shelves! And we're only half-way into January. I've only finished two books so far this year. I also broke down and visited the library once. (I was by myself and couldn't pass up on the chance to peruse without interruptions.) But I only got one poetry collection, so it doesn't *really* distract me from reading my own books.

  4. How's your library-free month going? I've checked two books off my TBR list and have reread three other books so far, so I'm feeling very accomplished. 🙂 There's a couple other books that have been languishing on my TBR shelf for years that I hope to get to next week. (Fingers crossed.) This has been a really good challenge for me. I'm definitely doing it again next year.

    • It's gone very well — I've read exactly half of the books I had put on my list for the month, some of which had been hanging about for a very long time. And there were no duds among them! I also would definitely plan to do this again next year.

I'm finding this far easier than I thought it would be . I've also read five books, two classics and three quick relaxing books. I miss the library visits bit not the stress of too many books on hand and looming due dates.

  6. I have read 2 books from my own shelf this month and 3 from the library. I'm not doing super great with this challenge, but I'm still glad that I got some books off my shelf completed.
